32 Minus 14

Ugh.

What would you do when life deals you with the most unreasonable, it's-everyone-else's-fault-but-mine, suckiest ever, almost a living hellish, basically the minute you call her she'd scream and yell at you (which, btw, I believe that's her style of talking) temp-colleague who happens to be your ex-lecturer?

Sweet talk. That's what you do.

ANYWAY!

The Romanic languages, or sometimes referred to as the Romance languages, are a group of languages belonging to the Italic subfamily of the Indo-European family of the world. Among them are French, Italian, Spanish, Romanian, Portuguese, Occitan, Catalan, and many more! If you listen carefully, they do sound quite similar, right?

Right!

Same goes to English and German, they belong to another group of languages called the Germanic family. Dutch is also under the same group.

Can you see the difference? Yes you can, of course! Yeah! Sailorsim boleh! And I’m talking to myself in a chat window! whoo hoo. yeah. =___=’’’

An Out Of The Blue (And Yellow) Evening

We’ve since moved in to our new pad for 2 and half months now and we haven’t officially invited anyone over. Well simply because our wardrobe is still in the living room (!), our CDs are on the floor, the weeds are having a field day, and the paintings and photos are not up!

So finally we hopped over to Ikea on a work-night, hoping to bag some good buys and ideas. Man, I’ve forgotten how long since I’ve last set foot in Ikea! When I was younger (and was all hot about becoming an interior designer), Ikea was D dream company! I'd make dad to bring us over every Sunday after dinner! I just love, love the whimsical ambience there! It’s so cool!

We drifted from one showroom to another, seeing so many new, fresh things, soaking up the ideas, drinking in the ambience, and with the air-con on high, I was reminded of the carefree times when I was in Finland! Oh the bliss!

After all the walking, giggling, and discussing about the furniture like 2 real adults big time designers, we hung out at the cafeteria and chatted over a meal of meatballs, chips, laksa, and chicken wings, and free flow of cappuccinos *heart*. It was so fun and relaxing! I should really, really do this again!

The Ops. PigOut @ Ogawa Japanese Kitchen was awesome! I won’t speak for the rest lah, but I had a total kick-assed blast! And guess what, the get-together actually hooked up some old classmates which was so cool!!! *feels very achieved having done a good deed. Zen out*

Aw man! Happy food and happy friends make me really one rainbowed happy camper! :))) We should really do this more often!

Actually I’m just really lazy to blog lah, zzzz so I’ll leave you with some pictures (but I colour-enhanced them!). There weren’t much photos taken though, we were busy… uh, pigging out. Next round we should put more effort to invite camwhores to join the party! Heh.

The banquet - ready for its guests

WONDERfullyMILKed

I know I’m gonna get some good flaming for this. But I can’t keep quiet! Wondermilk is such a rip-off!

There. I just said it. -_-

Lijen was raving about wondermilk like, 2 days ago, and yesterday, my colleague’s gf made us all chipped in to buying a box of mini cupcakes for his bd, and that’s a whopping RM49 per box of 50 cupcakes? That’s RM1 each after rounding up.

Yes there are cute, they are sweet, there are pretty and for RM1 you can’t expect a muffin-sized cup right? Fine! I get that. But this! This is … argh! The mini cupcake is mini alright! I could even hold it up with my pinky and it wont topple over! When put in the mouth, I felt…. I felt…. toe curling, mind numbing, eye squinting, brain freezing sorta nothingness! It’s just a teeny tiny bite of baked sugar and flour. For all that I could taste, the cakes tasted sweet and… stony wet, you get me? It’s wet but it’s also kinda hard for a cake. Nothing like you would expect from a cake. I mean, come on! It’s a cupcake for goodness sake! Zzzz!!! You're killing all the cuppy magic!!! :(

And the flavour was apparently chocolate chip. But there wasn’t enough space for the chips to “float” themselves in the body of the cake, so they sink (sign of too wet batter?), and were kinda burnt and stuck to the teeny tiny foil cup. Gargh! It makes me angry just eating them!

I love cupcakes, don't get me wrong. I even had cupcake towers for my wedding! And I used to love them, the brand cuppacakes I mean, the whole concept, the whole fairy and romantic-feel that bundled in with the branding and cupcakes and all, but after seeing and tasting their product now, I’m not so sure anymore guys, I’m sorry. That’s it. That’s what the mini cupcakes make me feel. Extremely frustrated. Like, for real, EXTREME FRUSTRATION AND BEYOND THE GOLDEN UNIVERSE. whatever that means.

And for that price! That sad tray of mini cupcakes! Oh and the amount of colouring that went in to decorate those little teeny tiny cuppies! Let’s just say we all garnered quite a bit of attention on the streets with awesomely gothic black lips and chow chow’s purple tongue (the gf ordered the Rockstar theme, you see. Zzz). -___-

And you’re gonna call me cheapskate. Whatever suits you man. Money is not supposed to be earned and spent that way. For 50 buck (oh we were told delivery charge was RM50! From DU to Puchong RM50! T_T so we had to drive all the way out there to pick them up.), we could’ve bought him a nice meal at Chillis, or for a hundred buck, TWO huge yummy Secret Recipe cheese cake (chocolate cheese!!! YUM!!!) and we'll still get change I think, or if we go to a nice hawker/restaurant, we could have a crab feast! Le sigh.

But to wondermilk’s credit, I suppose it is time consuming to decorate ‘em cuppies, what more, when they are so tiny, it’s hard work! Yeah.

Oh well lesson learnt. Art is not for everyone cheapskates. But cupcakes are! :(

So yeah, I’m just being cheapskate. *slaps self* And don't ask me to chip in to any of wondermilk purchases no more! *roar*

OK End of rant.

Prayer Blunder

All I wanted was to compose myself, calm down, and get a grip. So I took deep breaths and said a silent prayer. Only what came out was this:

"Dear God, please bless this food for my nourishment. Amen"

Chibabom!!! O_='

I *heart* chibabom moments like this. not. -_-

Surviving Fuel Price Hike: 3 Easy Ways To Drive Less & Save Money

Accept it, we are living in the era of expensive fuel. But not all should be bleak and moody in view of the recent fuel price hiked (and there’s already a speculation of another hike in the near future. Yikes!). Here are 3 simple, basic tips that will help you cut down on your expenses and in the long run, save money.

3-in-1s Are Really Not That Bad
If you are like me, who cannot for the life of you, kick off the habit of having a cuppa in the morning or for tea breaks, then think of buying / tapau-ing coffee from your neighbourhood kopitiam as a luxury and stop indulging already. Instead, buy 3-in-1s beverage mix if you're for convenience, or better yet, make your own instant coffee/tea from scratch (i.e mix 1 tbp of instant coffee powder with 2 tsp of sugar, add hot water, stir well, blah blah… Oh! A box of 100-teabags will only cost you like what, a few ringgits only! That’s a hundred day of tea there man)!

Consider this:
A cup of Nescafé from the coffee shop is $1.80. If I were to have my cuppa say, 5 times a week, and this will add up to $9.00. In a month, just my coffee alone will leave a small but significant dent of $36.00 in my wallet, and in a year, $432.00.

Now compare this with a pack of 30-sachets 3-in-1 Nescafé coffee mix - that’s a full one month supply - which will cost me nothing more than $10.00 a pack in the hypermarkets currently and all I need is hot water. That’s a saving of at least $26.00 a month, and $312.00 a year compare to buying from the coffee shops!

Couple that with simple home-made breakfast, i.e bread with butter and jam, wheat biscuits, or simple egg sandwich instead of nasi lemak (trans fat!) or wanton mee, you’ll be saving big time and living healthier in the long run!

Eating-In The Hawker Way
Admittedly, I still find it difficult to juggle marketing, cooking, and working at one go. Of course ideally it’ll be me whipping out a piping hot meal at the end of a work day for dinner, that way I’ll save and have healthy food that is good for my body. But come on, let’s face it, not all of us are born with the Nigella Lawson gene and I do think cooking for 1 or 2 pax is at times, more expensive than eating out. Here’s one way you can consider adopting: chap farn dishes!

For those non-Malaysians, chap farn simply means “mix rice” where you’ll be given rice and have at least 10 types of dishes to choose from at the neighbourhood hawker stalls. It’s almost like home-cooked food minus the benefit of MSG-free factor. Mix rice is the most common hawker offering very much loved by students or working young adults who are living away from mom’s home-cooked meals, for the simple fact of wide variety and it’s relatively cheap - generally $3.50 and up per meal of rice, 2 veges/tofu/egg, 1 meat, and normally soup are complimentary, but I won’t usually take the soup because it’s laden with MSG and salt.

To take it a step cheaper, you can always just buy 2-3 dishes in per-person portion without the rice (this normally feeds 2 persons well), which will not cost you more than $4.00 (depending on the dishes: normally fish and seafood dishes are more expensive), on your way back form work; and cook rice at home! You’ll be feeding 2 persons for just a small fraction of the cost of eating-out!

Here’s a tip: instead of packing the dishes in separate containers (usually charges more), simply take and line your dishes in one container neatly. And if possible, bring your own container to save the environment from Styrofoam and plastic pollution!

Online, Off-road
Everything is going online these days, inclusive of bill payments. So why congest the road, waste your time, energy, and join the crowd at the banks/post offices/counters to pay bills? Compile your bills monthly and make arrangements to either pay online, or a standing instruction to auto-debit from your account.

That way, you not just save time and petrol; you also save from paying late charges and interests when your payment is over-due. Trust me, late charges may not be much. Even if it’s just a $10.00 fee, it can very well add up to a whopping $120.00 per year, and that does not include interests yet. Now you do the math!

Unfortunately, there’s no changing how the world changes so quickly, especially in terms of costs of living. However, we do have a choice to adapt to changes and make adjustments to live frugally. So open up your mind, be creative, and pay attention to the tiny details in your daily living. Cutting small costs here and there may seem petty, but it’ll definitely pay off in the long haul.

English 101

Jason and I have always been amazed with how amazing our younger generation (metaphorically speaking only ok? We are not old! :/ and don't be carried away with the word "amaze" there lah! I'm a blogger, remember?), i.e the youths we met/at church, can speak and write so fluently in English, most of the time we are just happy to keep our mouths zipped lest we make some glaring grammatical mistakes and they'll laugh at you, like really, they'll laugh at you. =.=

When they open their mouths, fuh! They speak English like they are uhh… eating taufufa...=_=’ uhhh, so the statement doesn’t make any sense but that’s the point - to show you the difference geddit?! The verboseness of that and this generation. erm OK, whatever. Zzz.

So I’ve been sharing this with the (take a deep breath now) supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Missy Essie, and she says simply that, it’s not difficult, at all!

See the level of confidence? x_x

So anyway, she sums things up and gave me this, life-saver tips:

Apparently, if there’s a certain type of genre/style which you need to adopt in your writing/speaking, think of these statements/questions…

If I want to…

1. Write/talk like a medic student/scientist/psychologist/disciplinarian/kungfu master - ask yourself - "What would Ming Yan do (or not do)?"

2. Write scripts for children/puppet plays - ask yourself - "What would Cerlyn (the cake?) do?"

And I'm adding these myself:
3. Write/talk expressively when I’m really angsty and still make sense - ask yourself - “What would Juju do?”

4. Write/talk like I’m on hyper-, overdrive, or a histrionic - ask yourself - “What would Essie do?”

5. Be totally bombastic bimbotic and a part of every positive adjective to describe (esp. so) yourself - ask yourself - “What would Jap/Jared/LiJen do?” - for no one represents the SS group better than them.

Essentially, this post is just a space filler and noise polluter because I have nothing better to write about (surprise!), but go ahead, you might just give your dead brain a much needed jolt of life by thinking like them, and well, probably save your to-hand-in-today assignment. (well if you don't know them, go make friends lah! Joh!)

(Eh, almost like I'm matchmaking/social profiling for them ah, if liddat, I might as well add in this one here:)

6. If I want to scold gracefully (and have super sunshiny-I-can-make-you-smile smile!) - ask yourself - "what would dohnie do?!!!"

Ah. It’s good to have friends of all kinds so that you can hard-sell them out when you have nothing to write about in your blog, don’t you think?

Looking For Something?

I wish I could say something about the camp, you know - exciting, fun, cool, anything! But I can’t, words just fail me right now, my thoughts are all over the place… desperation, assurance, thirsty, quenched, disappointment, satisfaction, frustration, joy, anxiousness, fear, contentment, abandonment, loved. All over the place.

I really wish I can be honest to the bones with you here, about everything. Or have something flowery to tell you, so that you’ll be boost up, I wish I can talk about it. But I think there are things, like our personal walk with Him, should be left between you and Him, alone.

As honest as I can get, it has been a wild ride. At least I’m learning now what “walking with Him” really, really means. Wow.

“I love you. You are never inferior to anyone. I love you”

He said. And that is all that matters to me.

After Low Tide Is ALWAYS High Tide

I feel a little on the low tide lately. In all, I’ma gonna sum it up and put the blame on work.

And the p.e.o.p.l.e in it. -_-

It’s always the human factor that puts me off balance. Gah! T_T It’s a constant struggle to stay afloat!

But, the fact that it’s a “struggle” is because I’m putting up a fight - a fight to not just stay afloat, physically; but also emotionally and spiritually. It’s seriously tough esp when you have a family to juggle with, and to think I don't even have kids to worry about now! Working married women (with kids - optional), how do you do it?! :(

But I’m just not about to kowtow to any sort of negative thinking and let them drown me! >(

Submit. Submit. Submit! Submit all your plans, and wills, and thoughts, and you, to Him.

Because only when I’m weak, He is strong.

Enough about this low tide rubbish! High tide is coming real soon! Gotta get ready for it because….

CHURCH CAMP IS A-COMING!!!!!!!!!

*excitingness*

!!!!!

And that’s tomorrow! Can you believe it?! Tomorrow we’ll be off to Port Dickson for our church camp and some high tide fun! Although… I’m not a big fan of Port Dickson with all its slimy and shady waters, but I digress!

It’s 4 full days of time away from the office and instead, spent with your favouritest people in the world!!!!! - church members. lol

Hehe. But yes lah, very favourite lah. Don’t you love your church members? Don’t you, don’t you don’t you huh huh huh? LOL

(don’t mind me please. I’m de-stressing T_T)

Church camp goodness aside. There will be a theatre production right after we all come back from the camp - the following weekend - entitled “Revive!”

Come join us (peiling! Yes?)! And watch Jason acting as satan!!! our multi-talented youths doing what they do best on stage!

P/S Autograph session can be arranged at the end of the play. lol

So stop hesitating (it’s free admission lah)! Just come! =) omg I'm so kancheong! :/breathleishiabreath!relaxjustrelaxit'llbejustfine!trustGod!justbreathpleaseholeishia!T_T

Our Life Thus Far

... in Puchong is awesome!

First off, it feels like a house, no more rest house and hotels and whatchapacallit. When we reach home, we actually feel like we are going back home. Tu comprends?

Secondly, it’s so much closer to church and our social life in Subang/Sunway. We can actually stay to make friends and have decent conversation as compared to rushing home with heavy eyelids after every night-time event, especially in church!

Thirdly, we’ve been out and about making friends! Our social circle is expanding like nobody’s business for the past 2 weekends I’ma gonna explode due to too much excitement!

Oh and lookie what I / we did for the past 2 weekends!

First (this post is all about listing, yes -_-)
Played an INSTRUMENTAL ROLE (read: UTTERLY IMPORTANT) in (force) bringing a blog to life. (Insert obligatory blog-pimping act) Check him out here. Oh and the new-born blogger says "only single ladies are welcomed" -_- Cis! The ungratefulness!

Secondly
Eh wait. What I did last Sunday ah? …. Shucks. I forgot. Zzz.

Thirdly
Had dinner with the 3 boys AND hung out at the car park watching clips after clips of Ana Ivanodunnowatvic bouncing on the field (apparently it's a tennis) court on Dohnie’s lappy (because he made us to!) AND actually stayed for ICE CREAM! 2 friggin’ pints of ice cream baby! Next time, we should get an entire pint of BR’s Rum Raisin, like this we won’t need to fight.

Classic line of the evening:
Jason: She’s very elegant (referring to Ana Ivanodunnowatvic).
Dohnie: ELEGANT! YES! YES! *drools all over*
Leishia: Classy
Dohnie: AH YES! ELEGANT AND CLASSY! (you should see him man. That smitten face! Fuh!)
Jap: *lying on the car hood, looking forlornly into the night sky, acting like so left out, and whispered sadly* then what am I?
Dohnie: O_o *an abrupt change from smitten to a confused and disgusted face*

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH that just cracks me up man! THEN WHAT AM I???? Dude! That's what you are! LOLLLLL AWWWW Kesiannya!!!! Someone's heart's broken!

Fourthly
Crazy enough to agree to a midnight movie at Pyramid (on the eve of a public holiday. Without making bookings x_x) only to be told that all seats for all movies are gone. That’s the shortest trip I’ve ever made to a shopping mall in my entire life - 15 minutes tops.

Fifthly
So instead of movies, we hung out (see! More hanging out!!!) at a mamak nearby and had honey naan, mee goreng, mixed grill, satay, and jumbo sour sop juice! By the time we finished, it’s almost 1am I think (staying out late without curfew!!!! Whoo hoo!!!! If I’m dreaming please please please don’t wake me up! T__T).

JeeJin was nice enough to point out that we can actually go home to Puchong without paying toll and that he’s willing to show us the way, right then! O_O shocking-est news ever! The part where we can skip the toll lah.

And the lovebirds - Jap and Dohnie - were clapping hands in glee in view of a possible “road trip”. There’s something fascinating about going out in the middle of night I tell ya! Everybody loves it!

Sixthly (It's this never gonna end -_- lol)
It’s true! It’s true! There’s actually a way to skip the toll!!!!! Oh yay! So happy! When we reached home, we actually showed our dear friends around the house (at ONE IN THE MORNING YOU HEAR ME?! I'ma just gonna hyperventilate and die here! Excitingness!!!), and sat down on the sofa for random and short but good conversations!

Seventhly
Took Irene’s invitation for Prince Caspian at Summit on Monday; not exactly up to expectations, the movie, but the company was great! Had pizza for dinner (the joint actually carries our magazines!) and made a ruckus in the restaurant, oh and made a new friend! Hello Jamie! I like your accent! :)

And the proudest moment - I pointed out my back and feet which was *ahem* featured on the magazine to the gang! Can you spot me in this month’s issue? xD

Syiok sendiri-ness! xD xD xD I’m beyond help! But just typing this entry already makes me excited all over! L.O.L

The Day My Husband Thinks I've Achieved Kitchen Divahood

Inspired /ahem by anggie, I’m gonna blog about my success story (finally) in the kitchen.

I erm, made lamb stew.

First, you nick a simple recipe from somewhere, anywhere!
Then you take your time to collect and compile the ingredients from markets, hypermarkets, your mom's house etc.
Then you take a day’s leave off work and rise early to cut up the ingredients. (I hate animal blood T_T)
Then you may go back to sleep.
Then you wake up again and stare at the clock to decide which hour of the day is good to start stewing.
Then you take out your slow cooker (kitchen saviour T_T I heart you slow cooker!), dust it, clean it, worship it. Whatever suits you.
When your perfect hour comes, take out all your ingredients, dunk it all in to the pot (ok lah, be a bit more graceful, “layer” the ingredients in lah if you will =.=)
And then you turn the cooker on and you let it cook.
And then you just sit pretty and wait to be praised! :)

How do I define success, you ask? Easy. When the husband kept raving about it for 3 days in a row, that, my friends, is success.

OK, by raving I mean he kept talking about how tender the mutton was and that that was the most tenderest mutton he’d ever had his entire life and no mamak stall on earth can beat my mutton and it was really good! Not just good, but GOOD good. So good he was crying when he was eating it! (I'm not kidding! What do I look like I'm not capable of making people cry with my awesome cooking?! Huh?! >/)

I just smiled demurely and nodded along and peppered my thank-yous in a lady-like manner.

OF COURSE I DIDN’T TELL HIM SLOW COOKER CAN SOFTEN ANY TOUGH CUTS OF MEAT LAH! ARE YOU CRAZY?! T___T

Eh, come to think of it, he raves because the meat was tender, not that it TASTED nice or something... O_-

Sigh.

So now yes. If he tells you his wife makes kick ass lamb stew, just agree with him and pretend you're awed damnit!
